Spice up your site with Christmas content to spread joy (and sales) this holiday season.
Christmas; the season of goodwill, friendship, fun and of course spending! In this article, we discuss how to capitalise on the Christmas market with your copywriting skills, and digital marketing tips to add that festive sparkle to your online sales.
Tip#1 Link Christmas to Your Product/Service
A big chunk of time spent on your content strategy will be coming up with ideas of what to write about. Christmas is the perfect excuse to create content that has a popular purpose and will automatically attract readers. Take this blog, for instance, as an example! Here are a few suggestions of how you could link the holiday season to your sales:
- Come up with a limited edition Christmassy range/version of your original product or service (e.g. if you’re a hairdresser, let people know what festive looks you can create to prep for the big day!)
- Write a blog about Christmas essentials – including your product/service (e.g. if you sell alcohol, list the top 10 drinks to serve at Christmas, including all your products in the recipes)
- Tell your audience about how to use your product/service at Christmas time (e.g. Let people know what great gifts your products make and who to give them to)
- Create a festive guide – Think about what Christmas means to you, and what information you’d like to read to enjoy a better Christmas experience. (E.g. If you sell chocolates, you could write a blog about which chocolates are most popular at Christmas, or how many chocolates get eaten on Christmas day on average!)
Tip#2 Get Your Timings Right
Nobody wants to read about Christmas in October! But, that’s not to say you can’t start writing it so your copy is ready to roll out come December 1st. By around December 22nd, most people will have finished their Christmas shopping and just looking for last-minute tips/suggestions – so make sure you tailor your content to fulfil these demands in late December.
Although Christmas-themed articles are unlikely to be added to your bank of evergreen content, there’s nothing stopping you from re-releasing them year after year. Eventually, you’ll amass reams of clever Christmas content that can be repurposed each festive season. Just be sure to update this as needed, removing any irrelevant references and adding in new popular culture terms.
Tip#3 Tell a Christmas Story
“Once upon a time of all the good days in the year, upon a Christmas eve, old Scrooge sat busy in his counting-house. It was cold, bleak biting, foggy weather; and the city clocks had only just gone three, but it was quite dark already.” – Charles Dickens, A Christmas Carol
You don’t have to be Dickens to spin a good yarn! Christmas is traditionally a time of storytelling – audiences love that warm tingly feeling of reading a feel-good Christmas-themed narrative.
Readers like to understand other people’s traditions and anecdotes that spread some jolly old festive spirit (just like Scrooge!). So, why not share your company’s story at Christmas? Let people know what you do as a company that’s unique, kind and charitable. Or, tell a story about how your product/service is used by others at Christmas. Add a little festive punch with interesting adjectives and cosy descriptions that everyone can relate to.
Tip#4 Use Seasonal Synonyms and Festive Wordplay
Christmas is a great time to sprinkle some seasonal descriptors and funny festive phrases into your content. Why not try a few of these?
Angelic Adjectives:
- Jolly
- Bright
- Magical
- Sparkly
- Twinkling
- Wintry
- Snowy
- Joyful
Wintry Wordplay:
- Ugly sweater season is here for a reason
- May your presents be many, and your troubles be few
- Santa, Santa, please stop here and fill our Christmas with joy and cheer
- I’m dreaming of a white Christmas, but if the white runs out I’ll drink the red.
Tip #5 Use Festive Keywords
Choosing specific, Christmas-themed keywords can make all the difference to your search engine rankings. Make sure you use as many words relating to Christmas, Holidays, or Xmas as you approach mid-December.
Research your keywords to find more niche long-tail phrases, questions, and highly relevant keywords for your product/service. Follow all the SEO best practice rules, and see your content sparkle onto the top of the SERPs Christmas list!
